Raul delivering the Harper's French Masterclass
“I was invited by Harper’s Magazine to host a Masterclass about French wines at the French Discoveries wine fair last week.  I thought that it would be a good idea to share with you the main ideas of the wine class.  There a couple of practical points that you can use to increase the sales of French wine (or any wines) and also to develop your wine operation in general.  Enjoy the reading!”  Raul MASTERCLASS – FRENCH WINES – Practical…

Surely a great wine is a great wine no matter whether you drink it at home or in a restaurant? Yes, of course but there are some aspects that are more important to our on-trade (restaurants, hotels, bars etc.) customers than they would be to a retailer: NOT IN SUPERMARKETS! Our restaurant customers do not want to buy wines that are available at low margins in high street shops. Restaurants have far higher overheads and need to charge more.  Taste?! To explain: whereas many retailers will sell most of their wine without the customer trying it first our restaurant…

Forever looking for something to “sex up the document”, I started introducing a food & wine matching element to our International Wine Championship Qs last year and, this being subjective rather than factual, I have had one or two discussions about which wine tastes best with what foods. There’s unanimous thinking that everything and anything with any alcohol in its content made by grape or grain, brewed or distilled, Potcheen, Moonshine, Applejack or exotic liqueurs created by Benedictine Monks from a secret recipe a thousand years old, the legendary Doner Kebab IS the most versatile foodstuff on the planet. But,…

Morning Reader, We put on a bit of a show for one of our  most favourite clients last week who were entertaining their top punters and prospects and it all went really rather well. We kicked off with Bolney’s delightful, light, dry Pink Bubbly with it’s delicate flavours of raspberry and hedgerow and elegant, jolly effervescence….thoroughly gay in the old sense of the word….and maybe the new. The first white was my default crowd-pleaser, Esk Valley Verdehlo which was fresh and zesty but quite a difficult spot for the assembled.  Then the utterly ravishing Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru ‘Folatieres’ from 2008…

Quote of the day… Steven Spurrier:  “….no wonder you are so successful in the ontrade. Every single one of your wines is so pure, so well made and so good to drink.”

Thursday, 08 November 2012 12:06 When a company is old enough to have seen one recession already, it should know how to weather a second. Jascots geared up for the expected rise in business during the 2012 Olympics by offering 24/7 London delivery as just one example of proactive customer service. The predicted tourist boom during the summer may not have happened for everyone, but Jascots still delivers six days a week, using its own vans, offering the flexibility many small, on-trade customers need.Although best known as an on-trade and catering company supplier, Jascots has between 10%-15% retail sales (fluctuating,…
