Château Roquefort, Roquefortissime de Roquefort, Bordeaux, France 2005, Imperials

" Brambly, rich and full - this is 'very 2005'. The team at Roquefort, for all their modest location in the Entre-deux-Mers region of Bordeaux, do turn out cracking wines. 'Roquefortissime' is their top cuv?e and, especially in the mega-year of 2005, truly delivers top quality wine from top quality fruit. Framed by gentle barrel conditioning, this is a very complete, structured, classical Claret and a genuine gem. "

Château Roquefort

In 1976, Jean Bellanger, a textile industrialist, fell in love with Roquefort and succumbed to his desire to plant vine plants and produce wine. In 1983, he began regrouping the 24 plots and planted thirty hectares of vines. An ultra-modern winery was built and the first vinification started in 1987.
Frédéric Bellanger took over from his father in 1995 at the age of 32. Boasting the same determination, he, in turn, is continuing the development of the estate.Today, he is at the head of an estate comprising over one hundred hectares of vines (50% red and 50% white). For the red wines, Merlot is predominant on the calcareous table-land of Roquefort and its exposure is ideal on the hill of Castelviel. For the white wines, Sauvignon, on the coolest terroir of Saint Brice, retains its full aromatic richness.

The 18th century château that stands on the property was completely refurbished by the Bellanger family from 1978 to 1989, respecting the authenticity and charm.During the rennovation, many hidden treasures were discovered such as the two magnificent vaulted rooms of the stables, now transformed as the cellar and renovated with bricks from the Loire Valley. The dovecot, built in the 16th century, was entirely renovated from 1996 to 1998. The roof and machinery were reconstructed identically by the Compagnons de France.
