Victoria
Victoria, with over 600 different producers, is one of the country's most important wine-making areas. Situated in Southern Australia with Melbourne as the state capital, Victoria encompasses a vast area including both inland and coastal regions, and as such has a wide range of climates and terroirs which make generalisations concerning the area difficult.Inland regions tend to be hotter and drier than their coastal counterparts, where the climate is is often cooler than that of Bordeaux. Arguably some of the best wines are made in these coastal areas, with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Shiraz performing particularly well.
