Western Cape
South Africa's Western Cape is found in the south west the country, with Cape Town as its capital and it includes the wine producing districts of Stellenbosch, Worcester and Paarl. Much of the region is coastal, and this, combined with its southernmost situation, means that while the region enjoys the high sunshine hours associated with South Africa, cool breezes blowing in off the ocean play their part in keeping vineyards cool and well-ventilated, espcially at night time. Major varieties grown here include Chenin and Sauvignon Blanc for whites, while reds are commonly Bordeaux blends, Shiraz, and of course, Pinotage.
