Loire

The Loire Valley is a well known wine producing region of Central France, defined by the river Loire which runs through it before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. The region itself is so large and diverse that generalisations about terroir and soils are impossible, but the most well-known appellations include Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, famed for their Sauvignon Blanc; Vouvray, well-known for its wide variety of wines produced from Chenin Blanc; and Muscadet from Melon de Bourgogne. The region also produces a small quantity of red and rosé wine, typically using the red varieties Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir.High quality sparkling wines are the final string to the region's bow, produced in a wide variety of styles, some of which sit comfortably among the best in the world.
