Siegerrebe

Siegerrebe, meaning ‘Victory vine’ in German, is a white grape primarily grown in Germany with some plantings in England and the US. It is another crossing created in Germany by Dr Georg Scheu in 1929 from Madeleine Angevine and Gewürztraminer. The vine is suited to cooler climates with early ripening loosely packed red berries. It can reach very high must weights. Despite this the wine produced tends to be very low in acid and the finished with is similar to Muscat yet the flavours are reminiscent of Gewürztraminer. Stunning yellow-green to golden yellow in colour this grape is used in blending more than a varietal wine.
