Zweigelt

Zweigelt (pronounced TSVYE-gelt) was developed in 1922 in Austria by a scientist crossing Saint Laurent and Blaufränkisch. Today, it is the most widely planted red variety in Austria and is gaining popularity in Canada. A hearty grape able to stand up to the cooler growing conditions, it produces wines with a marked freshness, floral character and, in some cases, sweet spice.
