Castelnuovo
On 9 April 1958, eleven wine growers of the Garda region, met at Verona and founded the Cantina So-ciale Veronese del Garda (which later became Cantina di Castelnuovo del Garda). During the following years, the Cantina di Castelnuovo del Garda experienced a slow but constant growth: Nowadays, its wine-growing property consists of more than 1,200 hectares of vineyards spread on a wide hilly region at the south and east of Lake Garda managed by more than 260 associate producers. The associates give the total of their harvest to the cooperative; each year almost 190 thousand quintals of grapes are vintaged, for a production that will be around 3 million of bottles. The territories where vineyards are located belong to the Municipalities of Castelnuovo del Garda, Sandrà, Sona, San Giorgio in Salici, Palazzolo, Peschiera, Sommacampagna, Cavalcaselle, Colà, Lazise and Bardolino; the land, of moraine origin, is loose and rich in organic matters and guarantees the wine characteristic touches of freshness and fragrance. Grapes grow in pergola and espalier training systems, with a planting density that ranges from 3300 for the first system to 4000-5000 for the second. The aim pursued is always the same one: to constantly improve the quality of the wine, thanks to the use of less invasive technologies, respectful of the grapes, wine and consumer.
