Ackerman
This 200 year old family business was founded at the beginning of the 19th Century when a young Flemish man, Jean-Baptiste Ackerman, spent a year in the chalky hills of Champagne learning the secrets of sparkling wine production. Armed with his new knowledge and expertise, he moved to Saumur in the Loire Valley, and soon after arriving, Jean-Baptiste met and married Mademoiselle Laurance, for whom the Collection Privée is named. Jean-Baptiste then set about acquiring 7 kilometres of the 1,000 kilometres of the underground caves of the region, which, with their ideal combination of darkness, humidity and coolness, provided the perfect environment for the production and maturation of top quality sparkling wine. Maison Ackerman has used these caves ever since, producing wines which rival the very best sparkling wines from around the globe.
Today the Ackerman Company is the result of a merger of three well renowned Loire Valley producers Ackerman-Laurance, Rémy Pannier and De Neuville. They work closely with local growers to source the best grapes from around Saumur to produce high quality sparkling wine of all designations at tremendously affordable prices and were pioneers of the 'cuve close' or 'charmat' production method, and to this day remain the only winery in the Loire Valley producing sparkling wines in this way.
