Château de la Greffiere

08.05.16

Château de la Greffiere is a typically 'mâconnaise' house, with an old winery (now converted into a museum) which shows evidence of winemaking going back as far as the late 1500s. The cellar was added to the property in 1789 and followed relatively soon after by the house which still stands, built in 1830. The Greuzard family has now been running this venerable estate for three generations. Chardonnay for this wine is grown on approximately 9.5 hectares of clay and calcareous soils, with an average vine age of 30 years. More than half of the vineyards are located in the immediate environs of the winery and enjoy a south-west facing hillside site, enabling maximum sun exposure and long ripening periods. The terroir is not only achingly pretty, but is ideally suited to the production of classic Mâconnais Chardonnay, with character, minerality and rounded complexity.
