Today England is recognised as a quality, premium producer with wines that have earned international acclaim. Though wine has been produced here since the Romans, England's real winemaking potential was realised in the 1980's when international varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier were planted in the chalky soils of Sussex to produce world-class sparkling wines. The new generation of knowledgable winemakers with modern techniques and technologies combined with improving climate have contributed to the newfound success. Today, there are more than 450 vineyards across the country and approximately 1800ha under vine. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the most widely planted, though indigenous varieties such as the increasingly popular aromatic Bacchus are also producing interesting, refreshing wines.
Jascots is proud to present to the On-Trade some of England's finest sparkling and still wines.
