Bierzo
Bierzo is a Spanish DO located in northwest Spain, in the province of Leon. It is a relatively small DO, with less than 3,000 hectares of vines, and around 70 different wineries.Bierzo's climate is particularly well-suited to viticulture, with high levels of sunshine and low altitude, which helps to prevent frost and means Bierzo's harvest is usually around a month earlier than neighbouring regions. The region is mainly famous for complex and concentrated red wines produced from the Mencia grape variety. Mencia from Bierzo is increasingly compared to red Burgundy due to the depth and complexity of the wines produced. The region also produces high-class white wines, mainly from Godello.
