Domaine Alain Chavy
Alain Chavy was established in 2003, after the historic Chavy estate was split into two. Chavy has been a well-known name in the prestigious Cote d’Or for over 200 years. The wines of Alain Chavy are renowned in Burgundy for their fresh, mineral and elegant quality (they are never over oaked). The goal is to show an expression of the terroir, as opposed to human intervention. In order to achieve, this minimum intervention is applied in the vineyard, where no chemicals are used (apart from the absolute necessary protection against mildew), and ploughing is the only form of weed control. Alain Chavy has 17 acres of vineyard primarily in Puligny Montrachet, which includes his father’s old vines in ‘Les Clavoillons’ (planted in 1955). He also has small holdings in Meursault and Chassagne Montrachet. The cellar is behind his house, and one of the only underground cellars in Puligny (and reportedly one of the coldest). The cool cellar temperature allows the wines to develop at a slower pace creating a purer product.
