Chateau Lalande-Borie
Chateau Laland-Borie was founded in 1970 by Jean Eugene Borie, who still runs the property to this day and has garnered fantastic acclaim for his wines over several years.Located on the left bank, just to the west of the St Julien appellation, the estate boasts 25 hectares of vineyards on prime, typical stone and gravel topsoil, with a subsoil of gravel and fibrous earth ensuring excellent drainage and enabling extensive depth of root networks. The vineyards are planted with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, making up a typical Medoc blend which is traditionally managed at a planting density of around 8,500 vines per hectare. All grapes are harvested manually and vinification is traditional, although fermentation takes place at a relatively low temperature of between 26-28 degrees celsius in order to retain optimum fruitiness. Wines are subsequently aged in oak, of which 20-30% is new oak (depending on the vintage).
