Lignier-Michelot
Domaine Lignier-Michelot has been in existence since the beginning of the 20th century, but like many of its neighbours they sold their grapes to the large local négociants for many years. Virgile Lignier, who joined the domaine in 1988, is the fourth generation to run the 8 hectare estate and played a large role in bottling their own wines under their own domaine label. By 1992, they had begun to bottle these wines under the Lignier-Michelot name and in 1998, Virgile took over control of the estate from his father and was solely responsible for his first vintage in 2000.The estate has vineyards in Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin and Morey-St-Denis, and a number of premier crus including Aux Charmes, Chenevery and Faconnieres and the estates total annual production is a mere 1,000 cases. They also boast a parcel of fifty year-old vines in Chambolle-Musigny from which the vieilles vignes is made.During his time in charge of operations, Virgile has evolved from technical winemaker to passionate viticulturist. As he says, 'It's all in the vineyard. It's not what I do in here, it's out there, the raw material'. He now spends more time tending to the vineyards and lets the wines speak for themselves.
