Domaine Grange-Cochard
Domaine Grange Cochard has 6 hectares of vines, all of which are under the Appellation Controlée "Morgon". Each hectare produces in the region of 7,000 bottles each year, weather and hail allowing. There are two areas of vines on the sought after Cote du Py, which is a small volcanic outcrop where the crumbly granite soil produces some of the finest wines in the whole region. The Times recently described a Cote du Py as one of the best dozen red wines in the world for under £20.00 a bottle.Grange Cochard produces small quantities of quality wine. They only use grapes grown on the Domaine, and the entire cycle of the grape from bud to bottle takes place on the estate. They have some exceptional parcels of vines, the majority are old vines in excess of 50 years old which give complexity and intensity to the fruit. The harvest is done entirely by hand which avoids the damage and trauma caused to the grape by mechanical picking. Moreover it allows the selection of the best bunches which are picked whole. The Château's cellars are then home to the oak barrels in which the wine matures, this is then bottled and labelled at the Château.
