Tenuta Roveglia

In an area steeped in viticultural tradition, Tenuta Roveglia enjoys an exceptional micro-climate and terroir for the production of their outstanding wines on the hills around Lake Garda. Clay soils, favourable aspect, from the Terminal Morain of the once glacier, and long hours of sunshine throughout the growing season all contribute to the quality and reliability of the estate, which was founded in the 1930s by Swiss textile merchant Frederic Zweifel. Back then the estate only produced wines to satisfy the demands of Frederic's friends and a handful of connoisseurs. In the 1960s, Frederic's son, Giusto, enlarged the estate with the addition of new vineyards and the acquisition of modern equipment.Tenuta Roveglia today commands an area of 100 hectares, with vineyards covering about 50 hectares of the estate, making it the most extensive and diverse estate in the whole of Lugana. Many of these vineyards are long-established, possessing an expansive root network and many old vines. Much care is taken over the management of the vineyards in order to cultivate vines of the highest quality - production is limited and selective, with quantity often sacrificed in favour of quality. Once harvested, grapes are immediately subjected to delicate pressing followed by cool fermentation in order to create perfumed, aromatic wines of great character, complexity and freshness.
