Quinta Nova
Although the Amorim family have been the leading producers of cork since the 1870s, it was not until 1999 they decided to invest in a winery therefore purchasing Quinta Nova with its spectacularly situated vinyards on the northern slopes of the Douro River in Cima Corgo, close to Pinhao. The youngest member of the family (fourth generation) is the very soul of the winery, bring unparalleled passion to the project of producing wines based on great tradition but with modern techniques as the winery dates back to 1764 with 120 hectares and 85 planted with vines.The terroir of Quinta Nova consists of the famous Greywachian Schist on flat terraces rising up high on steep slopes from the river, some parts of the vineyard are steeper than 45 degrees. The summers are hot and the winters are cold and wet, all vineyards are planted facing South and West exposing them to hot, dry winds, with the low humidity of the area producing highly concentrated grapes.
