Carménère
Carménère is a drak-skinned grape variety that is originally from the vineyards of Bordeaux but has found a very, if not perfect home in Chile where it is also known, but much less so, as Grande Vidure. A late-ripening variety that needs high levels of shine and a warm summer to reach ripeness and Chile can offer is everything and more. There has been some history of confusion with Carménère and Merlot in Chile but in recent years, DNA testing has made distinguishing the two rather similar grape varieties easiler. In the right environment Carménère can produce young herbaseous and peppery wines to ones full of blackberry flavours and even lush dark chocolate
