Marterey
Over in the sunny, hilly commune of Argeliers, which lies around 50kms East of Carcassonne half way between Carcassonne and Béziers, are the Marterey vineyards which lie in a unique zone that has rocky/stony soils similar to the calcareous soils in Burgundy which explains why their chardonnay is like a mini Burgundy Blanc. At Marterey their philosophy is both classic and contemporary. Classically tending to the vineyards with care and precision, careful attention if paid to the terroir and expression of the grapes through to the wine. While vinification is carried out in a more modern style, where the best parcels of grapes are selected by tasting before harvesting then de-stemming, crushing and fermentation all done at a controlled 25 degree Celsius. Their wine are a wonderful expression of the terroir being together the sun, the hills and the breeze into a pocket of sunshine happiness in a bottle.
