Sotherton
Sotherton Wines are produced in Orange, New-South Wales in South-Eastern Australia. The climate in this part of Australia is unusually hot for the production of quality wine, but this heat is offset by the relatively high level of rainfall and cloud cover during the growing season. South-Eastern Australia has an often baking hot climate, however here in Orange, the vineyards enjoy the tempering influence and elevation of Australia's 'Great Dividing Range', resulting in warm summer days, but cool nights resulting in a slow, long ripening period. Winemaker Rex d'Aquino is a 3rd generation winemaker from the D'Aquino family business whose roots stem back to early 1900's in Sicily, Italy. The D'Aquino family was the first winemaking family in the Orange district, started in 1946 by Carmel d'Aquino producing six barrels a year from a tin shed. Today, Carmel's Grandson, Rex makes wine from 20 different regions of Eastern Australia, resulting in individually styled batches of wine with consistent high quality.
