There is a legend in Romania that Bacchus, the god of wine, spent his childhood in the Banat region. Here viticulture dates back to the Roman Empire and wines are still being produced there today. The award wining winery Cramele Recas lies just outside of the city of Timisoara. The Romania side of Banat is a hilly area that is renown for its quality wines.
