Côtes de Gascogne

The Côtes de Gascogne is a wine growing district in Gascony, in the beautiful Midi-Pyrénés that also belongs to the distinguished wine region of South West France. Although it is mainly white wines produced here, red and rose are also available. The designation Côtes de Gascogne is used for a Vin de Pays ("country wine") produced in the Armagnac area, usually known for its distilled Armagnac brandy. The decree of the 13th September 1968 invoked the difference between a Vin de Pays and simpler table wine, the so-called Vin de table. The designation ‘Côtes de Gascogne’ obliges the producers to respect the stricter rules and production standards, which were adopted with the decree in 1982.Wines are produced from a wide repertoire of varieties, including Tannat, Malbec, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon for the reds and roses, and Mauzac, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscadelle and Ugni Blanc for the whites.
