Monbazillac
Monbazillac is an increasingly serious and up and coming sweet wine appellation within the Bergerac region of South-West France, on the left bank of the River Dordogne. Like Sauternes, wines here are made from Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle and the local environment, with its proximity to the river, favours the onset of early morning mists which encourage the development of noble rot, crucial to the production of botrytised sweet wines. Wines from Monbazillac offer much of the quality and style of nearby Sauternes and fantastic value for money.
