Tasting Notes
Wakefield Wines St Andrews Shiraz 2019. Situated at 1,150 feet above sea level in the Clare Valley, this wine benefits from abundant sunshine and cool nights. The 2019 vintage experienced lower-than-average rainfall, resulting in smaller yields but more concentrated flavors. The wine was matured for 20 months in American oak barrels, resulting in a complex palate with notes of dark berry fruit, spice, and chocolate. A bold and richly layered Shiraz, the wine opens with potent aromas of dark plum, blackberry, and sweet spice. On the palate, it is plush yet structured, with a wave of black cherry, licorice, and dark chocolate unfolding over finely grained tannins. Subtle oak integration adds nuances of vanilla and cedar, carrying through to a persistent, savory finish.
