Les Deux Cailloux, Fournier Pere et Fils, AOP Pouilly-Fume, Loire, France 2023
Loire, France

Tasting Notes
Fournier Pere et Fils Les Deux Cailloux Pouily Fume 2023. Coming from the riverside communes of Tracy sur Loire, Pouilly sur Loire and St Andelain, the climate here is significantly milder and lighter, allowing greater grape maturity at harvest time. Whether fanciful or not, there is a touch of gunflint in the aroma, and the vineyards do contain seams of flint and marl. Winemaking is as ‘hands off’ as possible, with a slow cool fermentation in tank with 6 months of lees ageing with weekly batonnage. On the palate, expect notes of ripe fruits, such as lemon with a hint of green apple, and aromas of lemon and lime zest with a dash of smoke.
