Jumilla
The region of Jumilla lies just north of Murcia in central, southern Spain. With its arid, hot climate it is well suited to producing full-flavoured red wines which enjoy the heat. As such, the principal red grape for the DO is Monastrell (Mourvedre) which ripens extremely late in the season and does well in the local temperatures, which can often exceed 40 degrees celsius. Jumilla is one of a mere handful of regions in Europe that makes high quality wines dominated by the Monastrell/Mourvedre grape.
