Spier Seaward Cabernet Sauvignon, Spier, Coastal Region, South Africa 2021

South Africa

SPISEACABSAUV21

Tasting Notes

Spier Seaward Cabernet Sauvignon 2021. Crafted from hand-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted on decomposed granite and weathered shale less than 10 miles from the Atlantic, this 2021 bottling reflects a cool coastal terroir that tempers ripening and elevates complexity. Its deep ruby hue frames a nose rich with red and black berries, such as blackberry and cassis, lifted by cedar spice and herbaceous notes, including celery leaf. On the palate, firm yet polished tannins nestle a medium- to full-bodied essence of blackberry fruit, balanced by vibrant acidity and a fine-grained oak backbone from 14 months of aging in French and American barrels. This coastal Cabernet offers European-style elegance with a South African punch, ready to enjoy now yet capable of graceful cellaring through 2028.
